Story Idea Apps
This picture to the left is from Pie Corbett's Story Ideas App. It's available on iTunes for 69p. It's quite a nice app. You can shake the device, iPhone or iPad, and , a bit like a slot machine, the pictures revolve around and eventually settle. then you get your story ideas: character, plot and setting.
We thought we could reproduce these using Scratch and our own artwork. here are the results.

A Prolific Student
I really love it when a student really makes the most of an opportunity. One of my students has done just that with the Scratch website, using it to publish a range of projects. In some of these projects I can see the influence of some of the things we have done at school but others are entirely her own work.
Sharing with the World
Keeping the inspiration of the Scratch @ MIT 2012 conference alive is no easy task when you are a general primary school teacher, but the prospect of my students sharing their projects with the students of a fellow attendee is really helping. I can't wait to see some of the projects they create as well as their reactions when they see the projects created for them.
I'm also pleased that my students from last year have continued to work with Scratch outside school, sharing their projects via the Scratch website. Some of them have done Halloween projects for the Gallery on the main page. I hope they get in!

Projects Created by Students.
My students have created a great number of amazing projects and I have shared many of them on the Scratch Website.
We have made stories, animations and games. Recently we have made simple apps for learning times tables and getting ideas for stories.
Have a look at them by going to our gallery.

Plans for this term
The year 5 students are doing a topic on the solar system which I think provides a great base for some serious Scratching. It reminds me of one of the ignite talks at Scratch at MIT, called 'Why do I have to learn that?' Children love the solar system and with the exciting science being done on Mars by the MSL Curiosity, this is a great time to leverage that interest.
Can we create some sort of database about the solar system on Scratch? Click on a picture of a planet and up comes the information about that planet.
